In the first few months you will have a fair bit of dialogue with the teacher compared to those who have been practicing for a while, this is very natural and expected.
It's important to take advantage of this and ask as many questions as you feel.
We teach you each shape, one-at-a-time. We pay attention to your skeletal structure, your current abilities and limitations, and your fitness. You will be given instructions on each pose and tips on how to build up your strength and flexibility, and the teacher will coach you individually to address any issues in the body.
When you find yourself unsure of what to do next, take a moment to pause and wait for the teacher to come and see you. In the studio there will be students with all levels of experience present, doing all manner of interesting things, so enjoy being inspired by them.
In Mysore style classes, additional poses are given to the student only when they are ready to take on the new challenge. This style of teaching allows the sequence of moves to be so closely tailored to the individual that they can be working on the very edge of their ability and constantly growing, taking one more step into the unknown, and then another – so that their strength, flexibility, ability – both physical and mental are gradually and joyfully increased.
